Osprey
Osprey
Osprey, commonly known as seahawks, are spring and summer residents of western Washington. These birds are nearly as large as bald eagles and look like them from a distance. I remember growing up in New Jersey the state kept telephone poles up, even after electric and phone cables went underground, for osprey to nest on. I saw nests but never saw the birds. They are really beautiful and fun to watch when they fish. These were photographed mostly on Chambers Creek in Steilacoom and at the Glacial Heritage Site in Littlerock.
